SOOOO im done with my molecule webpage or have been done.
AND IT LOOKS AWESOME (;
lalalala Mr.Olson is coming around to check it now.
i want to go home!! im so bored -o- and tired...and hungry. i can't wait till brunch and lunch.

Polar Bears and Penguins
We read a comic called "The Bare Essentials of Polarity" and it was about polar bear and penguins. It was teaching us about polarity and bonding between atoms in greater detail. It also taught us the concept of electronegativity, which helps us to understand partial charges.
polar molecule is just a molecule with a difference in electrical charge between two ends.
electronegativity tends to rise as you move "northeast" on the periodic table, and decrease as you move "southwest". Electronegativity is the ability of an atom/nucleus to attract bonding electrons toward itself.

Attractice Molecules
This lab was pretty cool.
We used 4 molecules in this lab.
water,
acetic acid,
isopropanol,
and kerosene
We poured one liquid at a time into the buret. We had a charged wand, and when we put the wand next to the liquid coming out of the buret, the liquid might bends/ attracts to the wand.
The molecules that were attracted was water, acetic acid, and isopropanol. Kerosene was not attracts.

recently
we learned about the Lew Dot Structures.
we did a lab called Let's Built It.
Gilbert Newton Lewis
1875-1946
Discoverer of the covalent bond,
inventor of the Lewis Dot Structures,
and the theory of Lewis Acids and Bases
the greatest chemist to ever not win a noble prize

electron glue
we did two labs...
electron glue:
We read the 4 descriptions of possible models for bonding. Then we classified 15 substances. They were either Ionic, Covalent Network, Metallic, or Molecular Covalent.
Model 1: IONIC
properties:
made of metal and non-metal atoms,
dissolves in water,
conducts electricity when dissolved but not when solid,
brittle solids
Model 2: Covalent Network
properties:
made entirely of nonmetal atoms,
does not dissolve in water,
does not conduct electricity,
very hard solids
Model 3: Metallic
properties:
made entirely of metal atoms,
do not dissolve in water,
conduct electricity,
bendable solids
Model 4: Molecular Covalent
properties:
made of nonmetal atoms,
some dissolve in water, some do not,
do not conduct electricity,
tend to be liquids or gases or softer solids

the last time at the library
....WE DIDNT DO ANYTHING!!
sucks. the computers werent working, or the internet wasnt.

Visible Spectrum Lab
We did a lab in class that had to do with the main colors of the rainbow!
RED, ORANGE, YELLOW, GREEN, BLUE, VIOLET!
& we made 3 charts; 2 line graphs & a pie chart.
& IM EXCITED FOR BASKETBALL TRYOUTS THIS WEEK!! AND THE NEXT!

flame lab
IT WAS SO COOOOOOOOOOOL! HAHA.
probably the best lab so far. All the flames were changing colors when we put in different elements in them. There were colors like hot pink, light pink, red, orange, green, yellow, and violet.
Today is Mole Day!
6:02am-6:02pm 10/23
6:02am-6:02pm 10/23
Mole: 6.02 x 10 ^23= the number of atoms in 12 grams of carbon-12;also known as avogadro's number.

Spreadsheet
Today in Chem. we did a spreadsheet. It was pretty confusing cause' Mr.Olson didn't really teach us how to do it, but its okay cause' we got it down anyways. I was super duper tired today too. And i need to start doing my Chem work :d ahaaaa yikes! ttyl though tired as asdffgkhjdgkhgfklj!

ISAWHAT?! ISATEST. haha. & bubbles?!
SO TODAY IN CHEM...
I got A LOT of work done. HAH. & we had to take the ISATEST. totally not really liking those? i dont know its whatever. & then afterwards there was like soap fizzing??! i dont even know but that was a fun experiment kinda thing.

Computer Lab
We're in the computer lab right now, and I need to finish all the assignments that are about to be due in like 40 minutes!!!! :O I don't really know what to do right now aha. brb!

RECAP on chem today.
UMMMM...
we went over worksheets. Mr.Olson wore a costume & a wig. <--HAHA. Constitution Day (: & i fell asleep in class. & Mr. Olson woke me up -_____-"
I am doing more homework right now. aha. Got to do the Element Webage.

LABS & STUFF
we're here postin' again! blah blah blah. I AM SO TIRED RIGHT NOW. sigh.
The FIRST lab that we did was "the penny lab" where you dip the penny into zinc and the penny turns silver & when you heat it up it turns gold, but mine melted -_____-"
The SECOND lab that we did was the "Measurement in Chemistry" lab. you get to weigh stuff & do math stuff yeah ahaha. we had to find the mass and stuff. OHH I DROPPED THE TEST TUBE GLASS TUBE THINGY or whatever. haha. & then we had to pour a huge cup of water into the cylinder and we were all shaking and couldnt pour the water into the cylinder & we totally missed.
